Important Help Needed
  • Many of you have hosted servers to some extent. 99.9% would have been hosted on no-ip.org. However, my ISP has blocked no-ip for unknown reasons (Im pretty sure Its a goverment ban). Anyway, so I haven't experienced the freedom of being an admin and ruling over a small community of players. (And being tyranny LOL :D)
    Heres my problem:
I've installed Windows 2008 on a machine that's Intel Core 2 Duo with 2.5 GB ram and 200 GB of disk space. 32 Bit and its 2.00 GHz.
How how do you make this a VPS?
How would I run Jolt on this?

I know how to run Jolt on localhost on a normal computer so don't bother saying anything relating to localhost or running on a normal computer. :)

Please excuse the stupidity of this question, but I really need to know how.

    Most sincerely,
    awesomist
  • A VPS means a "Virtual Private Server". This means that the operating system is not real, it is only virtual, This can be done through programs such as virtual pc.
  • I've installed Windows 2008 on  Virtual PC 2007. I've also installed the .Net 4 Framework. Now what?
  • A VPS is something you buy from a service provider like serverguys.biz

They are a dedicated server that is virtual and hosted on a bigger one.

Virtual PC is the same thing but made for home use.

If you want it on a server you need to order a VPS and remote desktop onto it.
  • i know what vps is and how get one online, but what i m asking is exactly how to make one at home.
google didt turn up anything usefull.
  • You mean something like ESXi or Hyper-V? To put several OP installations on one computer/server or simply put, virtual machines? Unless you misspelled it and meant VPN? That would make more sense, since you seem to be looking for a solution to no-ip being blocked.

I do, excuse any "stupidity," no problem, but can you clarify? :P

I'd be glad to help you.
  • simply put, i want to know how to host jolt on a server so that other people can connect and play.
